About Ed
Ed Frakes is a Fremont California artist that has lived in the Niles area for over 32 years. He retired from the Newark Unified School District as a former teacher of both art and elementary education. His legacy as an art teacher has followed him–many of his former students from Memorial High School are still amongst his artist friends.
Ed lives in the large Victorian house on Niles Boulevard just down the street from the Florence Bar and the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum. Some of his art projects are almost legendary–like his “Birdhouse a day for a year”, his Famous Shrine of Patron Saints, his Christmas Time Open House Exhibit of over 300 creches. My wife and I are proud owners of sever of Ed’s quilts from Kansas as well as an Angel constructed out of re-cycled materials. Ed currently has a gaggle of geese displayed in his front yard, each of a special blend of colors. I have known Ed for over 35 years, and he never ceases to amaze all of his friends.
